When I was in my late 40’s, I began to experience low back pain and X-rays revealed a degenerated disc in lumbar region of my spine. About 4 years ago, I developed sciatic pain in my left leg which lasted about 6 months but disappeared after I improved my exercise and herbal supplement programs.
In December 2007, I began to develop sciatic pain in my right leg. At first it was similar to what I had earlier felt in my left leg so I hoped that it, too, would respond to my own approach and disappear in a few months. However, it became progressively worse, and soon I was not able to lie down without severe pain, including lying in bed, so I was relegated to sleeping in a reclining chair.
One of the centers that I called was South County Spine Care (SCSC) run by Dr. Jeff Shad, assisted by his caring and capable associate, Nazli. Within 2 months of completing the treatments and going through some Pilates and other core-strengthening exercise programs, I was able to return to playing basketball (half-court only) and I remain pain free over 6 months later.
